Saint Peter’s Church
619 Lexington Avenue New York, NY 10022
Known as the “First Church of Jazz,” Saint Peter’s Church is an iconic Lutheran congregation in Midtown Manhattan. Renowned for its modernist architecture, it sits at the intersection of jazz, contemporary art, and social justice, hosting world-famous Jazz Vespers every Sunday since 1965 while serving the city as a sanctuary congregation and community hub.
The problem
As the program continued to grow, Saint Peter’s needed a cohesive system of print materials that could communicate effectively with both internal and external audiences. This included weekly and monthly materials —such as bulletin announcements and event listings—as well as outward-facing promotional assets like newspaper advertisements and takeaway posters featuring upcoming performances.
The challenge was to create a consistent visual language across all formats while honoring the distinctive halftone aesthetic and strong visual identity already associated with Jazz Vespers.
How we solved it
We developed a coordinated family of print assets that unified the Jazz Vespers experience across multiple touchpoints. This included newspaper advertisements, a quarterly poster featuring the season’s musicians, weekly bulletin integrations, and informational takeaway materials designed to promote upcoming performances.
By working within Saint Peter’s established visual identity and expanding the use of its recognizable halftone imagery, we created a system that felt cohesive, contemporary, and unmistakably tied to the legacy of Jazz Vespers. A structured production schedule also ensured that materials were developed consistently and delivered on time, improving visibility and communication for both congregants and the wider public.
